Botanical name: Brassica rapa/ Var.: Rapa The germinating seeds and sprouts of turnip present a high antioxidante activity, mainly owed to their flavonoids, phenolic compounds widely distributed in the cruciferous species, related with the antioxidante cell-defense systems and the reduction of cardiovascular problems and diabetes. Their content in glucosinolates is lower than in broccoli, but in the range of mustards or cabbages.
